St. George vacation

From left to right, Jana, Alice, Chrisi, Laney and me. My PTA friends, enjoying lunch at "Brick Oven" in St. George

Can't have a vacation without pampering yourself, what pretty toes after our pedicures.

Sporting those lovely flip flops you get after your pedicure.
The Thursday after Robert got out of the hospital "I left him" as he sadly told everyone, to go on a much needed vacation with my PTA BFF's to St. George, Utah. We had this trip planned since January, I was so sad when I thought I might not be able to go with them. Robert was blessed to come through his heart scare with flying colors, I felt he would be ok for me to leave. He was planning on returning to work the next day. I had a State PTA Board meeting all day Thursday, the plan was to leave when the meeting was over. My sweet Dad came and picked me and my friend Chrisi up Thursday morning and took us to the State PTA office where our meeting was. My friend Laney was driving a Suburan so we would have enough room for all our luggage and us. The condo we stayed also belonged to Laney's parents. The weather that Thursday started off sunny and no clouds, but as the day progressed we watched a storm blow in. It was coming from Southern Utah, the same direction we were heading. We kept checking the weather and road conditions to see if we were going to be able to make the 4 hour trip without problems. We even considered driving as far south as possible and then staying in a hotel. We were blessed and made it all the way, we stopped in Cedar City and had dinner, Jana lives in Cedar. We were in a caravan with Alice and Jana, after dinner Jana left for home as the 4 of us continued the 1 hour drive to St. George. We pulled into town at 9:30, after hitting the local Wal-Mart to get the essentials we continued the short journey to the condo. We had so much fun, there was only 3 of us staying at the condo, my friend Alice lives in St. George. We spent 4 days just pampering ourselves, no responsibilities, no children to get to school, homework to worry about. No one to worry about but ourselves....ahhhh. We stayed up late, some slept in ( I didn't do so well in that area, dang body clock). We got the pedicures, went shopping, lounged in our pj's, watched movies, T.V. ate lots of yummy food, ate out a few times. We even talked Chrisi into getting her ears pierced, (I didn't post the pictures Chrisi, promised I wouldn't). The weather wasn't as warm for Southern Utah as we had hoped, we did manage a couple of days of somewhat warm weather. My friend Chrisi flew home Monday, she had family obligations to attend to, so it was just me & Laney the last day. We went shopping, laughed alot and on Monday night our friend Alice joined us for a few hours of our last night. The drive home Tuesday wasn't any better than driving down if not worse. There are a few mtn. passes to go over and with it snowing it can make for a scary drive. Saw a few cars slide off the road, saw one car on its top. We were glad when we finally made it back safe.
Thanks to all my friends for the wonderful vacation, especially to Laney for organizing it all, and to her parents for sharing their wonderful home with us. Thanks to PTA for bringing these wonderful women into my life, they will be life long friends.

Happy Birthday Sweet Pea

Just a few weeks old
1 years old

1 year + old

2 years old

Almost 3 years old
Friday March 5th, my sweet and beautiful granddaughter will be 3 years old. I can't believe how quickly those years have gone by. She is so smart, loves to talk, to have you read her a story. She loves to watch movies at Grandma's house, "Stuart Little 2" and " Alvin and the Chimunks" are her favorites. She loves to play with our dog Buddy, and when Uncle Scott will pay attention to her she loves to be his Buddy. She loves to play outside in the summer, follow her Grandpa around the house and outside. She is a loving "Big Sister" to her brother, sometimes to loving. She loves her Mommy and Daddy very much, she loves to give kisses and hugs. Have a wonderful birthday my "Sweet Pea", your Grandma and Grandpa love you lots.

Gratitude

It has been a long five weeks, it will be five weeks ago tomorrow that Robert went in for Rotator Cuff surgery. Two weeks following his surgery he got a flu like bug with all the symptons, except it wasn't the flu. He was sick almost a week before he completely recovered and could feel somewhat normal. Fast forward to Monday of this week, Robert was sitting at his desk and all the sudden his heart started to race, his face got hot and he could feel the blood drain from his face, he felt like he could pass out. He laid his head down on his desk until the feeling passed. That happened again a couple of hours later, this time one of his co-workers got Robert's boss to come to his office, he told Robert he was going home and his boss would drive him. Sadly he couldn't reach me, somehow my cell phone was on silent. His boss strongly encouraged me to get him an appt. with the Dr. Tuesday morning we went to our Dr. and he checked Robert's heart beat, he was a little concerned and ordered an EKG right there at the office. After Reading the EKG, he told Robert that he needed to go to the ER. We spent the entire day yesterday in the ER while Robert was hooked up to a heart monitor. He had an irregular irregular heart beat, the top of his heart was in A-fib, not getting a complete beat, but just fibulating, so the bottom of his heart was beating alone. He had no signs of a heart attack, no tight chest or pain or anything. The ER Dr. was baffled as to how this started, thinking it may have had something to do with his illness after the surgery. The Cardiologist on call became involved, she wanted to admit Robert for overnight. He had another EKG done as well as a C-Scan, X-Ray and an Ultrasound. The Dr. said the best option was to run a scope down his throat ruling out any blood clots around or behind the heart, then the cardiologist would shock his heart into a regular beat. After a long restless night for him not getting much sleep with the nurses checking his vitals and drawing his blood he was pretty sleepy. This morning he had the procedure done, no blood clots and the shocking of his heart put it back to a normal rythmn. He has to take it easy for a couple of days, as well as being under the care of the cardiologist for a few months.... he says he's going to live. It was a scary experience that I don't want to have anytime again soon. Don't take being healthy, having a regular heart beat and being alive for granted, I know I won't.

Happy Birthday Whitney

3 weeks old

Whitney at 14 with her favorite brother Scott
Whitney and Jesse and on their wedding day November 2, 2007

The Cobb family, Christmas 2009
Today Whitney turns 19, I can't believe the years have gone by so quickly. I remember the first time I saw her at LDS Social Services, she was in wrapped in a pink blanket and sleeping soundly, she was only 1 1/2 days old. She was a big baby weighing in at 8 lbs 2 ozs., 21" long with dark hair. She has always been thoughtful of others, treats those she comes in contact with kindly. She enjoys her job as a CNA and I know those Elderly that she takes care of like her. Now she a wife and a mother, on top of working full-time to help support her family. She loves her husband and children and does her best to take care of them. Happy Birthday Whitney we love you, Mom.

Elton John and Billy Joel

This is the screen we viewed the concert from. The carmera man did an excellent job in giving us good shots of Elton and Billy.
Elton was flamboyant in his outfit, he had a design all in rhinestone on the back of his jacket, his glasses had "EJ" in diamonds on both corners

This is the stage from our view, we had corner seats, but it was awesome, we could see better than those that had a straight on view. They each had their own bands, they are all at the back. You can see their piano's facing each other. There was also lighting effects with each song, that was as much fun to watch as it was to listen.

After his costume change he was sporting red glasses to match the red shoes and the rhinestone design on the back of his coat.

I bought Robert tickets to their concert last year for his birthday, we were scheduled to go Nov. 19th, 2009, but that day it was rescheduled due to Elton John being sick. Last night exactly 3 months later we were entertained for almost 3 1/2 hours. The music was all the songs they are known for, they came out after their piano's came up on risers from the floor. They performed about 4 songs together, then Billy Joel left and Elton John performed for about 1 hr. When he was done Billy Joel came and and Elton left, Billy performed for an 1, then they performed another 4-5 songs together. They ended with "Piano Man and Rocket Man". The energy there was amazing, Robert & I were in awe of the front row they were all under 30 years old and singing and dancing to every song. We haven't been to a lot of concerts, but this was one of the best that we've ever been too. Our ears where still ringing when we went to bed, but it was worth every minute we sat there.

Sunshine

Yesterday morning while I was sitting at the computer the shine was shining in my window. I happened to glance outside to see it, I thought this was a pretty picture as the sun was rising over Farmington Peak, there was a little fog mixed in with it. Can't wait for Spring and Summer, so I can enjoy more sunny mornings. As it is short lived in the winter, today its back to overcast and I can't see the mountains.

My beautiful Randi

Wednesday I was tending my grandchildren. Randi came with "crazy hair" as she fondly calls it. She went to bed with wet hair the night before. I asked her if she wanted me to fix her crazy hair and she agreed. I sat her on the bathroom counter and used the faucet to get her hair wet...the results....her beautiful head of naturally curly hair. I asked her if I could take a picture of her to send to Grandpa and to "Grape(Great) Grandpa and Grandpa". She was hesitant at first, but finally let me snap this picture. Of course as a baised Grandma I think she could be a model....but most of all, she just has the most beautiful red curly hair.

The Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle
Yesterday we took our family including Jesse and the grandchildren out to Farmington Bay to watch the Bald Eagle. Whitney had to work so she wasn't able to come with us. We saw the eagle above in one of their bldgs., this eagle was rescued with a broken left wing. So he won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Randi was in awe of this eagle, he never once was bothered by the noise of people around. The Bald Eagle is a beautiful bird, we did get to see through bonoculars the bald eagle from a distance, sitting out on the frozen pond, there was about 6 of them. They hang around Farmington bay to eat and then head to the mountains to nest. Other than the rain which created mud, it was an interesting experience.

Robert's Surgery

Robert in the recovering room, still coming off the anesthesia, feeling just fine here.

Thursday the 28th, Robert has his 1st surgery ever in his 51 years of life. His left shoulder had a torn rotor cuff. The surgery itself was 2 hours long with another 2 + hours in recovery. The surgeon said the surgery went better than expected, he also found spurs on his collar bone that he removed as well. It was an outpatient surgery, so after 7 hours at the Surgical Center we were on our way.

The first night he was doing ok. He slept a lot, good pain meds from after the surgery. I became his left arm, his care giver, it requires patience on both our parts for this one. He started out sleeping in our bed that night, but by 2:30 in the morning he moved to the couch, he slept a little better there. For both of us this was a change, neither one of us has had a surgery of any kind in our 26 years of marriage. With the exception of Robert's kidney stones last year and his 2 hour stay in the E.R., we have been healthy.

Friday he was doing ok until the afternoon, the pain, he says is a constant dull ache. The pain meds he's on don't seem to be doing the trick. He spent most of the afternoon downstairs sitting, laying whatever position comfortable in the lazy-boy watching TV. Last night he didn't do so well, the pain meds are still not helping, he was up and down all night, he didn't wake me. He knew that there was nothing I could do for him, he let me sleep. Today I called the Dr. on call, he called in a stronger dose of his pain meds. Usually this pain medicine knocks him right out, and he gets really groggy when he's taken this before. I feel bad for him, wished I could help take the pain away.

We both talked to enough people and knew that this a one of the most painful surgeries, even though his shoulder wasn't as bad as some, we knew it would still be painful. Hopefully today will be a little better once he gets his stronger dose of meds. The worse part for him is wearing the sling, he hates the feeling of having to keep his arm stable, and in the sling. He will be in the sling for 4 weeks, he starts P.T. on Monday. That won't be too fun, I have to go and learn how to move his arm for him. That is one thing I'm not looking forward to, I don't want to make him hurt.

The Dr. told him it take about 4 months for his shoulder/arm to be strong again, he's planning on that so he can golf with my Dad when we're in St . George in May. Just have to be consistent in doing his P.T. so he can have full range in that arm again.

Happy Birthday Dad

Thursday Jan. 28, my wonderful father turned 70. Its hard to believe that my dad is getting older, he has already surpassed the age of his own father who died at 69 years old of a blod clot to the heart. My Dad is an amazing man, he has a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He has been a great example to me in my life, he is close to the Lord, he taught me the importance of daily prayer, attending the Temple regularly, and daily scripture study. His service to the Lord and others is a wonderful example. They broke the mold when they made my dad, he is one of a kind. Hope you had a great day Dad, I love you.

Happy Birthday Grandma

Tomorrow would have been my maternal Grandma's 90th birthday, she passed away 15 years ago of cancer. I have a lot of fond memories of my Grandma and going to her house. For 11 of my childhood years we lived in different state than my grandparents. So our visits were few and far between, but Grandma and I always wrote each other letters, and I knew on my birthdays that a card would arrive from Grandma with coins taped inside the card. If you were lucky enough to be at her house when you celebrated your birthday Grandma made you a doll cake, she put a small barbie in the middle of the cake, and pink frosting my favorite color, was her beautiful dress. There are many memories dancing the to the poka record in the living room on the wood floors, playing Grandma's piano. I learned to love "Lawerence Welk" and many other shows from my Grandma. There are memories of Grandma fixing your hair, sleepovers when I was older. Grandma and Grandpa came to visit us many times over the years, I had the double bed, so that is where my grandparents slept. Every fall was their annual trip to visit us, they'd come over with Grandpa's truck bed filled to the top with fruit from their orchard for mom to can. When I was 18 we moved back to the same state as my Grandparents, I went off to college and had the opportunity to live closer to Grandma and be able to spend more time with her. I would often go visit Grandma if I was feeling homesick, needed to do laundry, or just wanted to visit. I think I was the only grandchild who was lucky enough to have Grandma make their wedding cake. I had my daughter before Grandma passed away, she was the 1st great granddaughter, although my own daughters memories of Grandma were her lying on the couch in the family room sick, Grandma had cancer by the time my daughter was born, she fought that battle for 4 years before she passed away. There are times when I really miss my Grandma, her hugs, her smiles and just sitting and talking with her. Thanks Grandma for all the wonderful memories. I love you.
